First let me thank all of you for the opportunity to serve as your President. We
have a lot of challenges facing us with the ever changing industries that we represent.
I would also like to thank the new Officers of the local for all their hard work, I
know how challenging their jobs can be. We had a very busy first year, and we will keep working hard for the Membership.
I would also like to thank all of our Union Stewards for their dedication and devotion to their jobs. We know that being a Steward takes away from your personal life and time and we want you to know how much we appreciate what you do for the Local and its Membership.
Some of the successes so far have been to secure more weekends for the Service Technicians of AT&T so they can spend more time with their families. We also worked on affecting change in Consumer Markets Group to try and make it better place to work.
We also were able to secure 5% pay increase for the Churchill Telephone Company Employees, along with a one tier pay scale and new language for Safety.
We just recently increased the pay scale of the Employees at Management Training Corporation and some new grievance language to name a few.
In the Telecom industry there are many changes coming, such as the Speed matters
campaign, this is a Legislative bill in Washington DC. That could change the future of Tele-
communications. Basically it states that the definition of broadband would be redefined, and
that each and every household will have high speed internet, whether you live in a rich or poor
area.
Let me end by saying that we all are the Union and we must stand together to face these challenges by Mobilizing and Organizing to protect what others before us fought to get for us and future members of this great Union.
If we all stick together we will make a difference.
Thank you,
Chuck Benway.
